IS4NCDs Project

The IS4NCDs project (Implementation Science for Non-Communicable Diseases) addresses the urgent need to build a health and research workforce in Southern Africa that is skilled in implementation science (IS) to better prevent and manage the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

While higher education in sub-Saharan Africa has traditionally focused on infectious diseases, IS4NCDs strengthens the capacity of universities in South Africa and Zambia to teach implementation science with an NCD focus. This includes co-developing nine new course modules, creating an executive program and an open-access eHub, training educators in innovative teaching methods, and fostering international partnerships. The modules will be embedded into existing programs, or shape new programs where applicable, and tailored for continued professional education. These efforts aim to support a diverse NCD workforce across the continuum of care and ensure that evidence-based strategies can be effectively translated into practice.

Early 2025, The IS4NCDs project was launched and is driven by the strong collaboration of the University of Zambia, Copperbelt University, Stellenbosch University, University of the Witswatersrand Johannesburg, Institute for Tropical Medicine, and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, coordinated by the University Medical Center Utrecht. For more information about the project, contact details, and ways to interact please check our website www.is4ncds.org or LinkedIN.
