Meta Analysis "Benefits of the application of a temporary intraoperative porto-caval shunts in liver transplantation"

Description

Background

A recent study on liver transplantation showed that the application of a temporary intraoperative porto-caval shunt increases venous blood flow, decreased retransplantation rate and improves long-term graft survival. There is, however, no overview addressing the positive effects of temporary intraoperative port-caval. Thus, clinicians lack evidence when deciding to apply this technique.

Objective

The objective of this study is to determine the effect of temporary intraoperative porto-caval shunt in liver transplantation on blood loss, ischaemia-reperfusion injury, survival of the liver and general survival based on existing evidence.

Duration

10/2014 - 1/2015

Cooperation Partner

The meta-analysis are performed in the cooperation with the Department of General, Visceral, Transplantation, Vascular and Thoracic Surgery, Ludwig Maximilians-University, University Hospital Munich, Munich, Germany (PD Dr. med. Martin Angele).
